Pollination is a vital ecosystem service benefiting two thirds of all crop plants. Many growers in Wisconsin rent managed honey bees to meet their crop pollination needs although Wisconsin is also home to over 400 species of native, wild bees that provide valuable pollination services, too.
How we manage the environment at the local and landscape scale, however, impacts the health and behavior of these important pollinators and their ability to provide pollination services. In this talk, Dr. Gaines Day will talk about her research investigating the role of local and landscape-level variables on the health and behavior of wild and managed bees. She will also discuss ways in which we can all contribute to pollinator conservation.
