Environmental Film

Film plays an important role within the CHE community. In the fall of 2007 and 2009, Gregg Mitman currated the Tales From Planet Earth Film Festival (Tales), which is a three-day festival showcasing environmental films from around the world.

The Tales Festivals were journeys across the globe explores how stories told through film shape our understanding of nature and inspire action on behalf of environmental justice and the diversity of life. All festival events were free and open to the public.

Surrounding Tales, students directed and produced environmental documentary films for the Environmental Filmmaking Workshop course, and in 2009 Tales had a large community engagement component, which came together through collaboration between Madison community organizations and the students from the Community Engagement Through Film course.
